counseling.
BENEFITS AND RISK OF
The benefits of counseling have been documented in many well-researched evidenced based studies. Those who are depressed often experience improvement in their mood. Anxiety can be lessened when counseling strategies are applied daily. Identifying needs improves self-awareness and provides insight into maladaptive behaviors. Effective communication skills can be learned to improve relationships over time.
There is the risk that through counseling clients may at times feel uncomfortable levels of sadness, guilt, anxiety, frustration, loneliness, helplessness or other challenging emotions. With clinical guidance one may become better able to process and manage these feelings. The discussion of very personal information can be difficult and embarrassing and may cause the
recall of unpleasant memories. It is not uncommon for symptoms to worsen before improving as the client proceeds through the counseling process. Overall, the benefits of counseling greatly outweigh the risk. therapeutic relationship with all clients.

Counseling is a collaborative venture between therapist and client, and if the client is a child/teen, the parent. The practice of counseling is not an exact science. However, transformational results are often observed when a therapist and client are both committed to the counseling process. Due to the cooperative nature of psychotherapy, no guarantee of a cure or positive resolution can be given. I look forward to establishing a healthy, collaborative and therapeutic relationship with all clients.
